Unique Characterstics
I was born and raised in Atlanta, Ga and now live on a catfish farm which is owned by my husband, Austin and my son, Andy… talk about a culture shock! After attending an Annie’s Project program coordinated by Mississippi State Extension, I realized how little I know about our farming business. It was apparent through several attendants there was a need for an organization focused on women in agriculture. Thus, Mississippi Women for Agriculture was formed and continues to grow each year. I have attended and conducted numerous workshops, in-services, conferences and the recipient of numerous grants including a summer program for 4 years, “Planting the Seeds for Careers in Agriculture: Educating 15-19 Year Old Children.” My working experiences have allowed me to work in a variety of people oriented jobs – Indianola Main Street Program Director, Director of the Caraway House, Sylacauga, AL (recovering alcoholics); Crisis Intervention Coordinator & Counselor, Greenwood, MS (chronically mentally ill); Psychiatric Assistant, Parchman Penitentiary, MS (criminally insane); Vocational Counselor, Mississippi Delta Community College (college students); and Sociology Instructor (college students).
